This is Ski Tour 2020

Ski Tour 2020 is part of the Coop FIS Cross-Country World Cup 2020 which takes place in five arenas across two nations. Ski Tour 2020 is a cooperation between the Norwegian and Swedish National Ski Associations and it will be a unique experience.

Every two years, the best cross-country skiers in the world get to measure their strengths in the Winter Olympics or the World Championships. This means that there is a ”gap” every other year. This season, Ski Tour 2020 will try to fill that gap and give the elite and of course, the fans, another world class cross-country experience.

Ski Tour 2020 kicks off in Östersund, Sweden, and continues to Åre, Trondheim and Meråker, and finally Trondheim.

Race program

The official opening ceremony of Ski Tour 2020 starts at 17.00 CET at Stortorget in central Östersund. The first two stages of the tour will take place at Östersunds skidstadion, which is located rather close to the city center.

On February 18 the athletes will compete at the Swedish Alpine National Arena the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships was hosted just one year previous. After the stop in Åre the athletes will continue to Storlien to participate in the 38 kilometer mass start race across the border. It will be the first time ever that a World Cup race crosses a national border and the women’s race is the same length as the men’s.

Ski Tour 2020 finishes with two stages at Granåsen Skisenter in beautiful Trondheim on February 22 and 23.

Cooperation across the boarder

Tour 2020 AB, the corporation behind Ski Tour 2020, is a co-partnership by the Swedish and Norwegian National Ski Associations. It is a historical cooperation between two ski nations who are known for their rivalry. Hopefully, this cooperation will lead to future projects and generate an exchange of knowledge and experiences, nationally as well as locally.

At each race venue there is a Local Organizing Committee, LOC, which is responsible for the races. The list below shows which LOC is responsible for which arena.

Östersund, Åre: Sportkompaniet AB

Sustainability

Sustainability is important for Ski Tour 2020 and the organisation wants to inspire future winter sport events by making an effort. It is about doing what is possible at every stage of the tour, as well as every part of the organization. Instead of setting high goals that cannot be achieved, Ski Tour 2020 is investing in making the changes that can have an effect – because they are being implemented. That includes putting demands not only on the tour organization, but also on partners, riders and teams. The organization is inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It includes a number of actions linked to six of the goals that Ski Tour 2020 will take together with its partners
